Kevin Kiley advocates substantial tax relief and tax cuts, favors reducing government spending and debt, and supports policies aimed at lowering the tax burden on middle-income families and small businesses while advancing business-friendly tax provisions. He has praised and voted for large tax-relief packages and promoted a balanced-budget/debt-reduction approach.
Supports extending and preserving Affordable Care Act premium tax credits to prevent large premium increases and has sponsored bipartisan legislation (the Fix It Act) to extend those subsidies while pursuing cost-control measures; emphasizes healthcare cost transparency and support for rural critical-access hospitals while expressing preference for consumer choice and limited regulatory mandates.
Supports strong enforcement and border security measures, opposes sanctuary policies and benefits for undocumented immigrants, and has introduced legislation to expand cooperation with federal immigration enforcement and to restrict public benefits for undocumented residents.
Supports restricting abortion at the federal level and has voted against legislation to codify broad abortion protections; has voted for measures limiting access (including barring DoD funding for abortions and voting against the Women’s Health Protection Act) while stating he supports exceptions for rape, incest, and to save the mother’s life. The candidate frames abortion policy as primarily a state issue.
Supports increased domestic energy production and policies that limit aggressive state or federal regulation of fossil fuels and vehicle mandates, while backing legislation intended to lower energy costs through permitting and market-focused reforms.
Supports strong Second Amendment rights and the ability of individuals to defend themselves, and has received endorsements from pro-gun organizations. Has questioned expanded federal gun restrictions and emphasized law enforcement and incarceration for violent offenders rather than additional gun-control measures. Holds alliances and endorsements from NRA and other pro-gun groups.
Kevin Kiley is in the news mainly for his California 6th Congressional District race, where he advanced from the primary and is now headed to a runoff against Democrat Richard Pan. He ran as an independent after leaving the Republican Party, and the redrawn district has made the contest more competitive. Kiley has also been active on election policy, backing faster ballot counting and certification in California and pushing a ban on middecade congressional redistricting. He has recently signed or supported several House efforts on Ukraine aid and Iran policy as well.
