Notable personal detailsStephanie Irene Bice is a U.S. Representative for Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District, first elected in 2020 and serving since 2021. She previously served in the Oklahoma State Senate from 2014 to 2020. She earned a B.S. in marketing from Oklahoma State University and worked in the private sector prior to elected office. She is married to Geoffrey Bice and has two daughters.
Supports extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and other pro-growth tax provisions, advocates tax relief for families and businesses, and backs reducing taxes/fees that affect energy producers. Also has supported targeted tax credits for employers (e.g., paid leave tax credit).
Supports market-oriented changes to improve access and affordability, has promoted health savings accounts and sought ACA replacement rather than Medicaid expansion, while backing targeted bipartisan measures such as paid family and medical leave tax credits and investments in medical research.
Supports stronger border enforcement including finishing the border wall, expanding resources for Border Patrol and ICE, and tougher penalties for illegal entry; advocates deterrence-focused measures and criticizes the Biden administration for weakening border security.
The candidate describes herself as pro-life, endorses protecting the unborn, and says she will work to prevent taxpayer funding of abortion. She has received top pro-life ratings and endorsements from national pro-life groups and has a legislative record of voting for measures described as defending the unborn.
Supports American energy independence and Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry, opposes Green New Deal-style regulations, and advocates speeding permitting and reducing regulatory barriers to fossil fuel development while promoting domestic energy production. Emphasizes lowering energy costs and restoring U.S. energy “dominance” through support for oil and gas leasing and infrastructure.
Supports broad Second Amendment protections including constitutional carry and reciprocity, opposes bans on semi-automatic firearms and standard-capacity magazines, and opposes expansion of universal background checks and other new federal firearm restrictions.
Stephanie Bice is in the news because she was mentioned as a possible candidate for Oklahoma’s open Senate seat after Markwayne Mullin was nominated for Homeland Security secretary. The latest update is that Bice says she will not run for the Senate seat in 2026 and will instead seek re-election in her House district. Her decision clears the way for other Republicans, including Kevin Hern, to move ahead in the race.
