Positions
Economy & Taxes
Supports tax relief for most middle- and working-class Marylanders while raising income tax rates on very high earners and funding increased investments; proposes closing corporate loopholes and lowering the statutory corporate rate contingent on combined reporting, and would eliminate the state inheritance tax while changing the estate tax threshold. The package combines targeted tax increases on top earners with tax cuts or no change for a large majority of taxpayers and spending priorities to grow the economy.
Healthcare
Wes Moore supports expanding access to health care through strengthened Medicaid benefits, state-based insurance affordability programs, and targeted public-health initiatives; he has backed state programs to expand reproductive and gender-affirming care and to increase access to vaccines and Medicaid-covered services. His actions favor government-led expansions and subsidies rather than proposals like single-payer or Medicare for All.

Immigration & Border
Supports a mix of stronger border enforcement and protections/regularization for immigrants: calls for congressional action to fix a broken immigration system and due process in deportation cases, while signing state laws that expand access to services for immigrants (including health coverage) and limiting federal immigration enforcement at sensitive locations. The governor has opposed deploying Maryland National Guard to the southern border and emphasizes following the Constitution in state interactions with federal immigration authorities.
Abortion & Reproductive Rights
Supports protecting and expanding abortion and reproductive health care access, including enshrining reproductive freedom in Maryland’s constitution and funding measures to expand abortion care and medication access. Has signed legislation and directed investments to make Maryland a safe haven for abortion services and to protect access to mifepristone. Continues to pursue state programs and grants to increase provider capacity and Medicaid coverage for reproductive services.
Climate & Energy
Supports ambitious, state-level decarbonization goals including 100% clean energy by 2035 and net‑zero emissions by 2045, a cap‑and‑invest program to raise revenue for clean infrastructure and environmental justice, and policies to electrify transportation and increase wind and solar capacity. Has signed executive orders and proposed funding and legislation to accelerate emissions reductions, energy efficiency in state buildings, and investments in electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and workforce development for green jobs.
Public Safety & Guns
Supports "common-sense" gun safety measures including strengthening state gun laws, creating a statewide Gun Violence Prevention Center, restricting firearms in sensitive locations, and measures to keep illegal guns off the streets while funding and partnering with law enforcement.
News
Wes Moore is in the news mainly because he is being discussed as a possible 2028 Democratic presidential contender, even as he keeps saying Democrats should focus on the 2026 elections instead. He has publicly dismissed or downplayed a White House run and has not endorsed a presidential bid for himself. Moore is also appearing at major Democratic events, including Al Sharpton’s conference, where potential 2028 candidates are courting Black voters and activists. Separately, he has filed for reelection in Maryland in 2026.
