2026 Colorado Elections FAQ

When is the 2026 Colorado primary election?
The 2026 Colorado primary election is on Jun 30, 2026.
When is the 2026 Colorado general election?
The 2026 Colorado general election is on Nov 3, 2026.
What races are on the ballot in Colorado in 2026?
Colorado's November 3, 2026 ballot includes an open-seat governor race, U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper's Class 2 Senate seat, all eight U.S. House districts and open contests for attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer. Voters also decide all 65 state House seats, 21 of 35 state Senate seats, judicial retention questions and any certified statewide ballot measures.
How does Colorado's primary work?
Colorado holds semi-closed primaries, conducted largely by mail, on June 30, 2026. Voters registered with a party receive that party's ballot; unaffiliated voters are mailed both major-party ballots but may return only one. The Libertarian Party closed its 2026 primary to unaffiliated voters. There is no runoff, so the candidate with the most votes wins the nomination.
Why is the 2026 Colorado Governor race important?
Because Governor Jared Polis is term-limited, 2026 brings Colorado's first open-seat governor race since 2018. It has drawn statewide heavyweights, with U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet and Attorney General Phil Weiser facing off in the June 30 Democratic primary, and a Bennet win in November would also create a U.S. Senate vacancy to be filled by appointment.
