2026 Florida Elections FAQ

When is the 2026 Florida primary election?
The 2026 Florida primary election is on Aug 18, 2026.
When is the 2026 Florida general election?
The 2026 Florida general election is on Nov 3, 2026.
What races are on the ballot in Florida in 2026?
Florida's November 3, 2026 ballot features an open governor's race, a US Senate special election to finish Marco Rubio's former term, all 28 US House seats, and the three elected Cabinet posts: attorney general, chief financial officer and agriculture commissioner. Voters will also decide state legislative races, with every state House seat and roughly half the state Senate up.
How does Florida's primary work?
Florida holds closed primaries: only voters registered with a party may vote in that party's primary, and the deadline to register or change parties is July 20, 2026. The 2026 primary is August 18, with no runoff. One exception, the universal primary contest, opens a race to all voters when every candidate is from the same party and the winner faces no general-election opposition.
Why is the 2026 Florida Governor race important?
Ron DeSantis is term-limited, so Florida's governorship is open in 2026 for the first time since 2018. The winner will lead the nation's third-most-populous state, and competitive primaries in both parties have drawn crowded fields. Nominees chosen on August 18 will then select lieutenant governor running mates before the November 3 general election.
