Utah’s 3rd District GOP field is headed to a June primary after a near-split at the party convention: Rep. Celeste Maloy edged Phil Lyman 51%–49%, and both are moving forward. Utah’s court-ordered redistricting has reshaped the state into one Democratic-leaning district and three Republican-leaning districts. Democrat Kent Udell has entered the race in UT-3. The close Maloy–Lyman convention result signals a competitive GOP primary, which may add short-term uncertainty. The redistricting description (three Republican-leaning districts) could support expectations of a Republican hold, depending on where UT-3 falls under the new map.
