Robert Smullen has ended his bid for Congress, removing the main establishment GOP alternative and leaving Anthony Constantino with a cleaner path in the open NY-21 race.
Anthony Constantino has won the Republican nomination in New York’s 21st Congressional District and will advance to the general election against Democrat Blake Gendebien. He beat Robert Smullen in the GOP primary and had Donald Trump’s endorsement. The seat is expected to be open after Elise Stefanik leaves it. Constantino’s primary win removes nomination uncertainty for Republicans and gives the GOP a Trump-backed nominee. The general-election market should now focus more on the open-seat matchup, with limited direct evidence here on which party is favored.
