Troy Jackson has moved into the lead for Maine Democrats’ U.S. Senate nomination after winning majority delegate support. Several rivals have dropped out, and the party will formally pick its nominee at the July 25 convention in Bangor. The eventual nominee will challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins. The news appears to strengthen Jackson’s position as the likely Democratic nominee, reducing uncertainty on that side of the race. It may modestly clarify the matchup against Collins, but the nomination is still not official.
