The California governor race remains wide open heading into the June 2 top-two primary, with a CBS News/YouGov poll showing Hilton (16%) and Steyer (15%) narrowly leading and roughly a quarter of voters undecided. A heated eight-candidate debate underscored how unsettled the field is, and Democrats are worried the top-two system could produce two Republican finalists. Mail ballots are expected to go out within about a week. The lack of a clear leader and large undecided share may keep party-outcome odds volatile. Reports of Republicans consolidating while Democrats fracture could modestly support Republican chances, but the primary remains highly uncertain.
